DISTSS Forum: Good Practice in Client Consultation

Client consultation is more than just client feedback, it requires involving clients in key decision making processes and service development.
The current Disability State Plan and Service Standards outline the expectations regarding the participation of clients and the support required from services to ensure meaningful input.
The short forum will explore the following:
- DHS expectations regarding service responsibility in this area
- How to support clients with complex needs to meaningfully participate
- The benefits of developing and implementing a client consultation plan
- Resources available
- Examples of Good Practice
Key note speakers include:
- Arthur Rogers – Director of Disability Services DHS
Service expectations and meeting quality standards
- Sally Jope – Consultant Community Services
Development of Consumer Participation kit and online resources available to disability services
- Jodie Willmer – Chief Executive Officer, Travellers Aid Society of Victoria
Client consultation regarding service review and supporting clients with a cognitive disability
- Pauline Taylor – Program Manager, Baptcare
From the Beginning; client consultation regarding the commencement of service
- Cath McNamara/ Anthony Giles Peters – Australian Ventilator Users Network (AVUN)
Consulting with complex needs clients and challenges for management
